Confession – I am a sucker for inventive music videos. There’s something special about the additional creative angle of visual media to a piece of music, and the combination of the two, when done properly, can be compelling. Among my all-time favorites is the incredible stop-motion video of “Moving On” by James.
With that in mind, I’m even more impressed when artists without a large budget create a really interesting music video. Stükenberg has created a nice double-feature of music videos in an abandoned church in Mountain View, Arkansas.
There’s a lot to like about the creative choices. The subject matter of the songs fits perfectly into the dilapidated of the consecrated. The slow reveal of the lyrics, as if projected onto the peeling walls. The choice of rough overdrive reflects the state of the background.
And of course, it was engineered using two Vanguard V4 FET Condensers and a Vanguard V44S gen2 FET Stereo Condenser by Millsounds Studio, one of our favorite people.
