Jeremy of Recording Studio Loser has been doing “One Mic” videos for a while. I love the concept, because stacking a mic multiple times will really expose its strengths and weaknesses. Is it bass-deficient? Is there a high-frequency peak that gets very unpleasant when you’ve stacked the microphone 5 or 6 times?
Jeremy recently took the Vanguard V44S gen2 for a spin and gave it the “One Mic” treatment. in this case, he remade The Wallflowers “One Headlight” using just the V44S. Vocals, guitar, keys, drums, and bass are all recorded with ONLY the V44S.
Jeremy used a number of really interesting techniques, including a drum mic’ing style I’ver never seen before that sounds AMAZING. Check out the video below!
Jeremy also graciously agreed to send us the raw and mixed tracks, which we have grabbed some snippets from for your listening pleasure! Each track first has the isolated raw instrument, then the isolated mixed instrument, then the entire mix. Grab some headphones and have fun!
