I’ve known Jacob Montague since college as a fellow APU alumni, and his continued ability to diversify his musical projects has never failed to amaze me. As a member of indie pop band Branches (40M+ streams on Spotify), he produces, records, and mixes all their projects in addition to playing “the stringed things”. Under the electronic alias Tsutro, he samples vocals and composes a new synth-driven track underneath it. As a composer, he creates soundscapes with folk instrumentation, digital and analog synthesis, and cinematic orchestration.
Jacob recently picked up a Vanguard V13 Tube Condenser to add to his mic locker. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“The V13 has quickly become my go to mic when recording vocalists on different projects. It manages to be smooth and crisp at the same time, and makes vocals sit so nicely within the mix. Also, the shock-mount alone is reason to buy this thing, seriously. Such a great design.”
