LRK Records(UK) has just released a new single from retro soul outfit Bella Brown & the Jealous Lovers. The song is titled Soul Clap and it is the third single by the group to be released by LRK. The first two, “What Will You Leave Behind” and “Bang Bang Bang”, were used as the A and B sides to a vinyl 45 release, which quickly sold out on LRK’s Bandcamp page. The new “Soul Clap” single is a shortened radio edit digital release, and precursor to a forthcoming LP. Besides containing a longer version of “Soul Clap”, the TBA full length will also contain new mixes of the previous two singles and six additional original tracks.
Vanguard Artist Daniel Pearson performed quadruple duty on “Soul Clap”. Beside producing, he co-wrote, played bass on, and mixed the track. The powerful layered vocals were recorded using a Vanguard Audio Labs V13 tube condenser microphone. “It’s a driving funk dance track,” says Daniel. “Very much in the vein of Bohannon and James Brown. So the vocals need to match that energy, but they also need texture and thickness to make them interesting and fit the retro soul style. The V13 just delivers! I get that tube warmth that works so well for a retro project like this, but I can also get interesting layering textures using the selectable polar patterns on varying performances.” Daniel says his vocal chain is simply the V13 through a Universal Audio LA-610 into his DAW. “That’s all I need!”
Soul Clap is out now on all streaming platforms. More information on Daniel Pearson can be found at: www.danielpearson.org and on Bella Brown & The Jealous Lovers at: www.bellabrownandthejealouslovers.com
